Wildcats Have Strong Showing at MHSAA Finals

EAST KENTWOOD, MI - The Alpena High School Track team had a strong showing at the Division 1 MHSAA State Track and Field Finals on Satuday at East Kentwood High School.  All six Wildcats came home with all-state honors and set three new school records.  On the track side, The 3200m relay team (Aidan Day, Drew Seabase, Aden Smith and Josh Smith) finished 7th and set a new school record of 7:55.45.  Josh Smith finished seventh in the 1600m run with a new school record of 4:16.79.  

On the field side, Gabe Bullis finished third in the pole vault with a record of 15 feet.  Faith Weide earned all-state in the shot put by finishing seventh with a throw of 39-2 1/2.

Weide Has Big Night at Alpena News Honor Roll Meet

ALPENA, MI - Alpena Junior Faith Weide was named the Female Athlete of the Alpena News Honor Roll Meet after running away with both the Shot Put and Discus events.  Gabe Bullis (14-6) and Karli Myers (9-9) both set new records in the Pole Vault in their event victories.  Maddy Boyd bettered her own record in the 1600m (5:23.38) and Josh Smith set a new record in the 1600m (4:20.88).  Other Alpena event winners were: Molly Dickinson in the 3200m; 800m relay team of Taylor Foster, Tiffany Foster, Emma Jore and Rosalie Mucciante; 1600m relay team of Maddy Boyd, Savannah Thomson, Grace Weaver and Tiffany Foster; 3200m relay team of Maddy Boyd, Emily Dickinson, Grace Weaver and Alexis Reynolds in the 3,200 relay (11:05.61); Maddie Voltz in the high jump.

Eight Wildcats Win Conference Championships

PETOSKEY, MI - The Alpena High School Boys and Girls Track teams put on strong performances at the Big North Conference Championship Meet on Wednesday in Petoskey.  On the Girls side, Faith Weide won both the shot put (38-10) and the discus (114-6.50).  Karli Myers won the Pole Vault with a height of 9-2.  Taylor Foster won the 100m Hurdles event with a time of 16.66 seconds.  The Girls finished fourth overall behind conference champion TC West.

On the Boys side, the 3200m relay team of Josh Smith, Aidan Day, Aden Smith, and Drew Seabase continued their season long dominance by cruising to the conference championship with a time of 8:14.95.  Gabe Bullis completed the Wildcat sweep of the Pole Vault with a height of 14-6.  Josh Smith won the 800m run with a time of 1:59.49.  The most intriguing event of the night was the 1600m where Aden Smith beat brother Josh to the line to win the event with Aidan Day finishing 5th.  The Boys team finished third overall behind Conference Champion TC Central and runner-up TC West.

Six Wildcats Qualify for MHSAA Finals

MIDLAND, MI - The Alpena High School Track and Field teams will be well represented at the Division 1 Finals at East Kentwood on June 2.  The Wildcats will have six representatives at the state finals after Regionals were held at Midland on May 18.  

State Qualifiers:

  1. 3200 relay team of Aden Smith, Josh Smith, Aidan Day and Drew Seabase placed first with a time of 8:00.86
  2. Gabe Bullis  took first in the pole vault with a height of 14-0
  3. Josh Smith took first in the 1600m with a time of 4:25.32
  4. Aden Smith placed first in the 3200 with a time of 9:39.31
  5. Faith Weide took first place in the shot put with a distance of 37-10.75
  6. Faith Weide took second place in the discus with a distance of 121-3

MHSAA Division 1 Track and Field Finals will be June 2 at East Kentwood High School

Boys Track Finishes 3rd at Bay City Western Invitational

BAY CITY, MI - The Alpena Boys Track team finished 3rd at the Bay City Western Invitational on Friday.  The highlight of the event was Sophomore Gabe Bullis set a new school pole vault record (14 feet, 6 1/2 inches) en route to the event victory.  Other event victories for the Wildcats included Zach Zaborney winning the long jump, Aden Smith winning the 3,200 run, and 3,200 relay team of Aden Smith, Aidan Day, Drew Seabase and Josh Smith won their event.  Alpena finished third behind Grand Blanc and Novi.

Girls Track Finishes 4th at Bay City Western Invitational

BAY CITY, MI - The Alpena Girls Track team finished 4th out of 13 teams at the Bay City Western Invitational on Friday.  Karli Myers placed 1st in the Pole Vault, Faith Weide placed 1st in the Shot Put, Maddy Boyd 2nd in the 1600m, and Taylor Foster 2nd in High Hurdles.  The Wildcats medaled  n 10 of the 17 events and took home 18 medals.

Wildcats Beat Northmen in BNC Dual

ALPENA, MI - The Alpena Boys and Girls Teams continued their hot start by sweeping a BNC dual meet with Petoskey on Wednesday.  The Girls team defeated Petoskey defeated Petoskey 88.5 to 70.5 by winning took first place in 10 different events.  Anna Young won both the 200 dash and 400 dash and took second in the 100 dash.  Young was also a member of the 400 relay and 800 relay teams that finished 2nd.  Other winners included Maddy Boyd in both the 800 run and 1,600 run; 1,600 relay team of Boyd, Tiffany Foster, Grace Weaver and Savannah Thomson; Faith Weide in the shot put; Kalie Kielizewski in the discus; the 3,200 relay team of Molly Dickinson, Malley McGuire, Tiffany Foster and Weaver (13:07.54); Dickinson in the 3,200 run; and Taylor Foster in the 100 hurdles.

The boys team won 11 events and defeated the Northmen 118 to 42.  Zach Zaborney won the long jump and 300 hurdles, Aden Smith won the 1,600 run and 3,200 run; Jadon Duncan won the 400 dash; Josh Smith won the 800 run; Haydn Goebel won the 110 hurdles; the 3,200 relay team of the Smith brothers, Aidan Day and Drew Seabase; George Pilarski in the shot put; Arthur Paad in the discus; and Gabe Bullis in the pole vault.

Boys Track finished 3rd at the George Graves Relay Meet

MIDLAND, MI - The Alpena boys track team placed third of eight teams Friday at the George Graves Relay Meet at Midland High School.  Gabe Bullis set a new sophomore pole vault record for Alpena High with a vault of 13′ 10″ which was the best of all vaulters on the day.
